To start an application (Helper) when you open a particular type of file

1. On the Edit menu, choose Options, or click the button on the tool bar.
2. Click the Helpers tab.
3. To specify which program (Helper) to start when you open a file of a new file type, click Add.
4. To change the program (Helper) that starts when you open a file of an existing type, click the type, and then click Edit.
5. Enter a description.
6. Enter the MIME type.
7. Enter the suffixes.
8. Specify whether the file type is Binary or Text.
9. In the Handling area, click Choose, and select the application you would like to use to open this file type.
10. On the How To Handle pull-down menu, choose Use A Helper Application.
11. Enter the File Type.

Tips

• To have Microsoft Internet Explorer open the file type, on the How To Handle pull-down menu, choose Use Explorer As A Viewer. This options is available only if Microsoft Internet Explorer can handle the file type specified.
• To save the file to your hard disk and open it using a Helper, on the How To Handle pull-down menu, choose Save And Use A Helper.
• To save the file to your hard disk without opening it, on the How To Handle pull-down menu, choose Save As A File.

• To use your Internet Config Helper settings, select the Use Internet Config Settings check box.
